'Crossing the finish line was me taking my power back'

Why one fundraiser chose to be part of Team RCEW.

"After I got raped, I felt my power had been stripped from me... and court was terrifying. However, Rape Crisis helped me through it all and, even though I lost my court case, I felt proud knowing I did what was right.

So I chose to run the 100-kilometre Thames Path Ultra Challenge for Rape Crisis England & Wales to not only give back [to them], but help others continue to get their power back.

Crossing the finish line was me taking my power back. I did something I never in my life thought I would do. I always thought monsters can create monsters and I wasn't going to let it happen to me. I was going to help people and it was the proudest moment of my life. No feeling quite like it."

This incredible fundraiser completed both the Thames Path Ultra Challenge and Great North Run in 2023 to raise money for us.

"I would tell anyone who is thinking of doing fundraising to absolutely do it. The support is amazing and you are spreading so much awareness for women all over."

Beth, who ran the Great North Run for us in 2023
