"This place can help" - the need for specialist Rape Crisis support

On Wednesday 22nd January 2020, BBC Look North reported on the huge rise in the number of victims and survivors of rape and other forms of sexual violence and abuse who've come forward for specialist support since the extent of Jimmy Savile's sexual offending was revealed in 2012.

One survivor who's received specialist counselling and subsequently helped to establish a peer support group with other survivors at Rape Crisis Centre Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL) talked about the importance of placing blame squarely where it belongs: with the perpetrator.

Elizabeth said she hadn't understood the full extent of the trauma she'd experienced until she received specialist Rape Crisis support and that she would recommend anyone else who's been through something similar to seek it out.
