Keep Counselling Confidential wins 'Campaign of the Year'

Keep Counselling Confidential has won Campaign of the Year at the Sheila McKechnie Foundation's annual National Campaigner Awards

We are delighted to announce that our Keep Counselling Confidential campaign has won ‘Campaign of the Year’ at the Sheila McKechnie Foundation's National Campaigner Awards 2025!

Run in collaboration with Centre for Women's Justice, End Violence Against Women Coalition and Rights of Women, our campaign sought to end the use of routine requests from the police for a survivor’s counselling notes.

The #KeepCounsellingConfidential campaign led to a change in the law that gives greater protection to survivors’ counselling notes when reporting sexual violence. In April 2024, the Government accepted an amendment to the Victims and Prisoners Bill that will raise the legal threshold for when rape survivors’ counselling notes can be requested by the police. This amendment received cross-party support and is a big win for survivors’ rights to privacy, justice and healing.

“This recognition is the result of years of hard work and collaboration between leading organisations working to end sexual violence, with the aim of improving the experiences of survivors who are navigating the criminal justice system.”

Ciara Bergman, Rape Crisis England & Wales CEO

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to the survivors who shared their stories, to our incredible partners, our network of Rape Crisis centres, and to everyone who backed this campaign.

Recognition from a respected organisation like the Sheila McKechnie Foundation is a powerful reminder of what our movement can achieve together.
