Our statement on the Independent Review of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre

The Independent Review of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC), published last week, highlighted important issues for Rape Crisis centres around supporting women and girls who have experienced sexual violence and abuse.

Rape Crisis England & Wales' focus, along with all of our member centres, is on ensuring that support is available for every victim or survivor who needs our help, whenever they need it, and for as long as they need it – whatever their background or circumstance.

In line with that focus, we have been reviewing how we can best support our member centres to deliver against our 2024 National Service Standards, so we can provide the best possible guidance on the safe and ethical provision of services. Central to that guidance is the informed consent, safety, dignity and empowerment of all the women and girls whom our centres support.

We are currently considering the findings and recommendations of this report as part of our review, and will be working with our members to put in place approaches and guidance to help them continue to deliver specialist, high quality Rape Crisis services to every woman or girl who needs their help.
