Inspiration

Meet one of our incredible fundraisers

Martha is the queen of large-scale events, having organised two balls and a film festival for us since 2019.

Her biggest lessons learned so far?

"Trust the process, ask for help and be kind to yourself."

Martha has raised more than £8,000 for us so far – and is showing no signs of stopping yet.

Our top tips for fundraising success

Make a plan

Work backwards from the date of your event or challenge, and think about what you need to have organised or achieved each week in order to make it a success.

Create an online fundraising page and set a target

There are lots of platforms out there for this, but JustGiving and Facebook are two of the most familiar (see page 10 of our fundraising guide). And setting a fundraising target will help you to stay focused and encourage giving.

Think about accessibility at your event

Things to consider include parking, public transport links, wheelchair accessibility and having a chill-out room on site for anyone who’s feeling overwhelmed.

Shout about what you’re doing!

We’d recommend posting regularly about what you’re doing on social media and asking everyone you know to spread the word. And remember: personal messages to loved ones will likely get you the most donations.

Find pre-prepared social media posts

Start selling tickets and promoting your event well in advance

Online platforms like Eventbrite are free and easy to use for this, and can help you to reach a wider audience. You’ll also find editable posters and social media posts below to help you promote your event.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help – including from your employer

Whether it's family and friends, colleagues or local businesses, you’ll probably be surprised at how many people are willing to lend a hand. And don’t forget about your employer – they might be able to share your online fundraiser, match donations or even let you host an event at the office.

Still got questions?

Send them over to fundraising@rapecrisis.org.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Want a branded T-shirt for your fundraising event or challenge?

Let us know at fundraising@rapecrisis.org.uk and we can send you one for free!

We recently got a new T-shirt design and can't wait to see all of the different places that our supporters end up wearing it.

Other ways to support us financially

There are ways to fundraise for us outside of taking on a challenge or hosting an event.

Perhaps you could nominate Rape Crisis England & Wales as your workplace’s charity of the year? Or explore if they would consider payroll giving?

Social media posts

Whatever social media platform you're on, we've got pre-prepared posts to help you shout about your fundraising efforts.

“I can’t quite believe I’ve covered so much of the Earth’s curves on a bike, on my own. But I feel more proud of seeing how broken I was after being raped, and how whole I am now."
