Rape Crisis short-listed for National Diversity Award

12 Aug 2014

Rape Crisis England & Wales is pleased and proud to announce that it has been shortlisted for the UK’s Largest Diversity Awards.

As the national umbrella body for our network of independent member Rape Crisis Centres, each of which provides a range of specialist support services to women and girls affected by sexual violence of any kind at any time in their lives, we have been nominated for the Community Organisations Award for Gender at The National Diversity Awards.

Over 21,000 nominations were received for The National Diversity Awards this year, paying tribute to inspirational individuals and groups nationwide that have dedicated their lives to enhancing the equality agenda, and making the achievement of being short-listed all the greater.

Rape Crisis England & Wales Chair Lee Eggleston said:

“We’re really honoured that our work, and that of our member Rape Crisis Centres, has been recognised and highlighted by The National Diversity Awards in this way.

With over 40 years’ experience of providing frontline, specialist, independent advocacy and support to women and girl survivors, we know how much they value our women-centred services, provided by women for women and girls in a women-only safe space.

We’re sure this nomination will help us further our aim of promoting the needs and rights of women and girls who’ve experienced sexual violence, as well as celebrating the expertise, experience and commitment of the many women who work and volunteer in our movement.”

The Hurlingham Club, London will play host to the prestigious National Diversity Awards 2014 black-tie event on September 26th, to honour the outstanding achievements of grass-root communities nationwide.

Face Equality Campaigner, James Partridge OBE, ground breaking entrepreneur Jessica Huie and Grassroots breakaway group Birmingham LGBT were amongst last year's Winners.

Paul Sesay, founder of the NDAs said; ‘The quality and quantity of nominees this year has been exceptional. I would like to wish all shortlisted nominees the very best of luck, and we look forward to meeting you on the night of the ceremony!'

Winners will be announced at The National Diversity Awards 2014 on Friday 26th September.
