Ministry of Justice funding announcement
22 Mar 2019
Forty-three Rape Crisis England & Wales (RCEW) member Centres have been awarded funding by the Ministry of Justice today (22nd March 2019).
Formerly known as the Rape Support Fund, this money has funded some core costs and provided some much-needed stability for specialist Rape Crisis Centres for a number of years. The three-year awards announced today will continue to be used by our members in this way.
While there has been a 10% increase in the amount distributed by the Ministry of Justice to support victims and survivors of rape and sexual abuse in this funding round, need and demand for our member Rape Crisis Centres’ specialist services has risen by considerably more than this in recent years.
Need, demand and service provision are all at unprecedented levels and continuing to grow. In 2017-18, our network provided over 650,000 sessions of specialist support, counselling and advocacy – an increase of 44% on the previous year.
RCEW is currently collating data from across its network so we can fully assess the impact today’s awards will have on its service provision and sustainability going forward.
