Million Women Rise 2016

4 Mar 2016

In just 24 hours' time, Rape Crisis England & Wales and many of its member and sister organisations will once again join Million Women Rise - the biggest annual demonstration in Europe against male violence against women and girls - to mark next week's International Women's Day and to march on London.

The march will gather from 12 noon this Saturday 5th March 2016 on Duke Street in Central London (next to Selfridge's) and will set off at 1.15pm. The protest will culminate in a rally in Trafalgar Square, at which Co-Chair of Rape Crisis England & Wales, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of member Rape Crisis group Northamptonshire Rape Crisis (NRC), Dawn Thomas will be among many inspirational speakers and performers from around the country and the world.

Looking forward to her first appearance speaking for Rape Crisis at Million Women Rise, Dawn said:

“Rape Crisis is really proud to be part of Million Women Rise and we’re looking forward to marching on London in solidarity with women and children from across the UK and the globe again this Saturday.

At this time of unprecedented need and demand for our specialist Rape Crisis services, which will only continue to grow as the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) continues, the need to stand up together against male violence against women and girls feels as great, as urgent and as relevant as ever.

We cannot and will not stop until every woman’s right to live free from the fear and experience of violence is a reality.”
